This course, DigiFab 2D: Laser CNC and Waterjet, provides an overview of the software and techniques used to manipulate vector and raster imagery in Adobe Illustrator and Autodesk Fusion 360. Students will learn how to create files that can be successfully cut out with computer controlled machines such as laser cutters, CNC routers and water jet. The course is designed to familiarize students with the software that will enable them to get what's in their head into their hands. The course focuses on 2D design and fabrication for both flatwork such as stickers and papercraft, as well as 3D assemblies from 2D parts.

[Applications]
The application of this course can be seen in the ability to create custom designs for a variety of projects. With the knowledge gained from this course, users can create designs for laser cutters, CNC routers, and water jets. These designs can be used to create custom stickers, papercraft, and 3D assemblies from 2D parts. Additionally, users can use the software learned in this course to create designs for a variety of other projects, such as signage, furniture, and jewelry.

[Career Paths]
1. Laser Cutter Operator: Laser cutter operators use computer-controlled laser cutting machines to cut and engrave materials such as wood, metal, plastic, and glass. They must be familiar with the software used to control the machine, as well as the materials they are working with. As the use of laser cutters becomes more widespread, the demand for skilled laser cutter operators is expected to increase.

2. CNC Router Operator: CNC router operators use computer-controlled routers to cut and shape materials such as wood, metal, plastic, and glass. They must be familiar with the software used to control the machine, as well as the materials they are working with. As the use of CNC routers becomes more widespread, the demand for skilled CNC router operators is expected to increase.

3. Waterjet Operator: Waterjet operators use computer-controlled waterjet cutting machines to cut and shape materials such as wood, metal, plastic, and glass. They must be familiar with the software used to control the machine, as well as the materials they are working with. As the use of waterjet cutting becomes more widespread, the demand for skilled waterjet operators is expected to increase.

4. 3D Printing Technician: 3D printing technicians use computer-controlled 3D printers to create 3D objects from a variety of materials. They must be familiar with the software used to control the machine, as well as the materials they are working with. As the use of 3D printing becomes more widespread, the demand for skilled 3D printing technicians is expected to increase.
