In this course, Creative Collage: Telling Stories in Layers, Ellen Weinstein guides students through the process of creating visual narratives inspired by everyday scenarios. Students will learn to combine painting, photography, and digital tools to build layered images that captivate viewers. The course is divided into five sections: Introduction, Theory and Pre-Production, Creating Your Collage, Finalizing Your Work, and Final Project. In the Introduction, students will learn the basics of collage and how to use it as a design tool. In Theory and Pre-Production, students will explore the fundamentals of storytelling and how to create a narrative. In Creating Your Collage, students will learn how to combine painting, photography, and digital tools to create layered images. In Finalizing Your Work, students will learn how to refine their collages and make them ready for presentation. Finally, in the Final Project, students will create a final collage that tells a story. Throughout the course, Ellen will provide examples of her own work and how she has used collage to tell stories for clients such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Time Magazine.
