This three day mini course, titled "How to Do Things with Memes," provides an introduction to the history of GIFs and memes, and surveys the use and abuse of memes. Participants will gain a better understanding of meme culture and be able to engage more deeply with this new folk art form. Through the course, participants will learn why memes circulate, and what it means to express feelings, attitudes, and even politics through memes. Additionally, participants will be asked to make their own memes. By the end of the course, participants will have a better understanding of meme culture and be able to engage more deeply with this new folk art form.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to apply their newfound knowledge of memes to their everyday lives. They will be able to create their own memes to express their feelings, attitudes, and even politics. They will also be able to recognize and analyze the use and abuse of memes in popular culture. Finally, they will be able to use memes to engage more deeply with the new folk art form.
