Data Management is a course that teaches students how to organise, store, and maintain data created and collected. Students will begin by designing the data architecture that structures how data is organised to construct a data base management system. They will ensure that raw data is held in its original form and is available. Additionally, students will build the process to analyse data and produce reports and dashboards. They will also consider using some of the many apps available as they offer cost effective solutions. Furthermore, students will learn how to ensure data is safe. If the data is stored on the premises, they will learn how to regularly take a backup and store it in another location. Alternatively, they will learn how to use a cloud-based storage system. Additionally, students will build in a process to ensure quality information is being delivered and poor-quality data is being filtered out. They will also write out a data governance plan setting out policies and the usability, consistency, availability, integrity, and security of data managed. Finally, students will consider the storage of non-digital data such as documents.
