This course provides an overview of the concept of designing for a future where no one feels socially isolated. Students will consider how social isolation affects them today and compare and contrast the current state of social isolation in the United Kingdom. They will identify and interpret opportunities and challenges when designing a future in which no one feels socially isolated, and investigate the opportunities that technology can provide. Additionally, students will recognize the fundamentals of design thinking, develop an appreciation for the significance of empathy in design thinking, and adopt a playful approach to ideation in response to the proposition.

The application of this course can be seen in the development of strategies to reduce social isolation. Participants can use the knowledge gained to identify and interpret opportunities and challenges when designing a future in which no one feels socially isolated. Additionally, the course encourages participants to explore the potential of technology to reduce social isolation and to recognize the importance of empathy in design thinking.
