To start with, learner diversity is an important feature that must be given attention: learners may differ by race, ethnicity, ability, thought, culture, religion, sexual orientation, gender, and economics – all of which can influence your program choices as a facilitator. At the same time, learner diversity also brings a wealth of experience and world knowledge to the situation. You will go on to learn about andragogy, the theory and practice of education as it relates to adults. This clarifies the principles of adult education, the characteristics and needs of adult learners, as well as the competencies that mark the facilitator as a professional.
As you work through this course, you will examine the practices that are available to you as a facilitator to support the goals you and the program learners have set. Collaborative learning is an educational method where two or more learners work together to learn something.
