Developing an efficient post-production workflow is the key to achieving professional, top-quality photos. Particularly in the field of portrait photography, the ability to edit images quickly and thoroughly is often the hallmark of an experienced photographer. In this five-course Domestika Basics, professional photographer and photo retoucher Iris Encina walks you through her foolproof method for editing portraits in Adobe Photoshop, paying special attention to skin and hair retouching.
Get started by exploring Camera Raw, setting up your workspace, and adapting your interface according to your needs in order to apply preliminary corrections to your photos before transferring them over to Photoshop.
In the second course, begin retouching your photos in Photoshop and familiarize yourself with essential features such as the Liquify filter, the Healing Brush, the Clone Stamp, and the various selection tools.
Continue by discovering frequency separation, a process that involves splitting a photo into texture and color layers to clean up the skin and apply color corrections without losing information.
In the fourth course, learn to use the Dodge and Burn tools to adjust the exposure in specific areas of an image, adding volume and improving the appearance of skin textures.
Then explore local color correction and add your own personal touch to your photos using adjustment layers. Finish up by learning how to export your final photos in different formats, both for print and online viewing, and share your masterpieces with the world.
