This course provides an introduction to weather forecasting. It is designed to give students the basic information they need to conduct a weather forecast, as well as insights into how meteorologists do their forecasting. The course covers a range of meteorological concepts, including temperature, felt-air temperature, humidity, wind, pressure, dew-point, precipitation, visibility, vertical structure, cloudiness, fronts and humidity. It also covers atmospheric motion, fronts, cloud types, meteorological observations and the equipment used, methods of forecasting, numerical weather prediction and the types of maps meteorologists use to predict weather. Lectures are generally 1-10 minutes in length and cover an important subject for weather forecasting without lingering too long on any one subject. Students will also have the opportunity to assess their understanding of the material through a short quiz. This course is based on five years of meteorological education experience and upon completion, students will be ready to make their own predictions.
